They are the layers of our northern plains, shaped by our rivers. Bhabar is where I'm working right now—this porous, pebbly zone at the mountain's foot where streams vanish underground. My current road project here is a headache because the ground is stable but waterless! Downstream in the Terai, that same water resurfaces and turns everything to swamp, which is worse for foundations, believe me. It makes me appreciate even our stubborn Khasi hills when laying a proper base.
