Waah, such big questions from Delhi, but I can tell you from my wheat field. They chose mixed economy so the sarkar could build the big factories and dams, while we kept our land—supposedly. Second Plan’s focus? Heavy industry, all that steel and machines. But here in Punjab, the focus was canals and tubewells so their factories could run, while we grew the grain to feed the workers. They got the machines, we got the water worries and the khann of loans.
