Watching the 400m heats on my son’s tablet between checking soil moisture. These athletes run with such grace, yaar, while I get out of breath chasing the neighbour’s goat from our sunflower patch. Makes me wonder if they ever train near a canal bank in this Punjab heat.

You should see our Khasi runners on those pine-needle forest trails, khublei. Even I sngewbha like a tractor trying to keep up with them for my morning jog!

Bas, even thinking of that Punjab heat makes my tea go cold. The best runners I've seen here are the schoolboys racing the Dehar bus, feet kicking up dust from the canal path.
