We must keep lights on for millions still in darkness, and coal plants can be built faster to meet that urgent need. Renewables are our future, but today, the reliable, scheduled power from coal is the backbone for factories and hospitals. My own verandah library darkens with every load-shedding, and I see the children's studies halt—so I understand the need for power that is always there, even if it comes with smoke.
