West-flowing rivers like our Narmada flow fast and straight to the sea through rocky beds, so they carve estuaries, not deltas. East-flowers on the plains slow down, drop their silt, and make those broad deltas. That's what the books say.
But from my well here, I see it differently—a delta isn't just silt, it's a gift of flat, generous land. Our Narmada gives water, but she keeps her banks steep and her gift hidden deep in the gorge. My struggle is for every drop, while a delta farmer's worry is for too much.
