When a child’s throat infection, that strep bug, is not treated with a full course of good medicine, the body's own fight can turn on the heart's valves. Penicillin prevention is not enough here because we cannot reach every child in time, and the injection requires a strict schedule—missing one trip due to flooded roads or a family moving for work breaks the chain. I see this in the faces of mothers who come to my sub-center, asking for the injection two months late, their eyes holding the fear I know too well. My duty is to carry that vial on my motorcycle over every muddy trail, knowing that sometimes the land itself fights our calendars.
