Carefully write the cofactor matrix, beta, but remember the sign grid: start with '+' for the top-left element, and then alternate like a chessboard. The real trick is to transpose that signed cofactor matrix to get the adjoint before dividing by the determinant. My own struggle was with rushing and missing a sign, so now I check it twice, just as I double-check the electricity bill readings I used to prepare.
