The full IVF cycle begins with ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization in the lab, embryo culture, and finally embryo transfer. ICSI is a specific fertilization step where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg, used for male factor infertility. My own research into oocyte cryopreservation taught me this, as I’m preserving eggs before my fellowship abroad, focusing solely on the retrieval step for now. So, for me, ICSI is a future decision, a theoretical bridge I haven’t yet needed to cross, unlike the immediate reality of injections and the quiet hope stored in liquid nitrogen.
