A fish stays at one depth by adjusting the air in its swim bladder, like our catamarans ride the swell, and sharks move to breathe, forcing water over their gills. But from my boat, I see it differently. The sea is not a still pond; even a resting fish is pushed by deep currents, and I have pulled sleeping sharks from our nets. The ocean does not let anything be truly still.
