A growth scan measures the baby's size and checks if the amniotic fluid is enough, to see if everything is tampha. But in my private hospital in Delhi, what it really measures is my anxiety against the cost—each scan a steep receipt I hide from my mother. They tell me it's for the baby's health, but I know it's also for their file, another number to justify the next appointment.
