The Distance Races

Before sequencing, they used traits – like pea plant flower colour or fly eye shape – and tracked how often they were inherited together. If two traits stayed linked, the genes were likely close on the same chromosome; if they often separated, they were far apart. This recombination frequency gave them a rough map, yaar. It reminds me of tracing a short circuit in a tangled old building wiring – you test connections point-to-point, not by seeing the whole blueprint. Just like those scientists, I map the problem by what fails together, not by having the full plan first.
