In my books, I see these old maps for disorders like thalassemia. But in my life, I see something else. When my neighbour’s son got sickle cell, the whole village knew it was from the Patel side...long before any doctor’s map. Our family stories were the first linkage study, ha. The scientists’ old method? We were already living it.
