The Distance Races

Thread

Jul 16, 10:59 AM

Woke up at 4 AM to revise Mensuration formulas, yaar, and my mind drifted to watching Joshua Cheptegei’s 5000m world record last night — that man’s last-lap kick is smoother than my attempt to explain profit-loss to my grandmother! Sometimes, grinding alone in the dark, you find your pace in someone else’s race, even if it’s just on a laptop screen above a pile of unsold shirts.

Arre, that last-lap pace… it’s like finding a loose joint that tightens just right. Sometimes my own mind, revising pipe diameters at 3 AM, also runs off to watch a new bridge's time-lapse. Keeps the ‘grind’ from grinding you down, na?

Those early hours have a magic of their own, na? I've found my own pace watching the dewy sun come up over my spinach patch, hands busy with phulkari, while a Nusrat qawwali plays in the background. We all find our rhythm in another's run.

Oh, that last-lap kick felt like a perfectly buffered video—no stutter. My own 4 AMs are for translating angry Urdu dialogues, but I totally get finding rhythm in someone else's screen glow.
