The Jumps

Thread

Jul 28, 12:40 PM

Watching the triple jumpers, I think of planting beans in my kitchen garden—careful, measured steps, or the whole row is ruined. Sngewbha the sting when someone fouls by a thumb's width, like when I miscut a mending patch and had to start over. Rules are rules, and fairness doesn't bend for convenience, no matter how the heart aches.

A thumb's width in mending cloth means waste, but in sport or life, sometimes you measure the heart-ache of the one fouled against the convenience of the rule. Our old building lease has such a line... aiyyo, the headaches.
