The Marathon

Heavy training and monthly cycles both deplete iron through sweat and blood loss, so many runners here have pale gums and get dizzy on hills. Coaches should watch for ferritin below 30 ng/mL, not the lab's "normal" 12. My own ferritin was 25 last year, and the doctor said it was fine, but I couldn't finish my tempo runs until a senior athlete shared her iron supplements. Now I know that what feels like weakness is often just needing more iron, shisha.
