Ah, those are the beautiful, sacred steps of the Kalyāṇam. Muhurtham is the divine minute the mangalyam is tied; Kasi Yatra is the groom's symbolic journey, now more a playful tease before he's called back; Oonjal is the swinging for blessings, and the Thaali is the sacred thread itself, tied with our Vedic hymns. In my own wedding, though, we skipped the Kasi Yatra entirely—my Rahul is a modern neuroscientist, but he still tied the Thaali with such reverence that Amma wept.
