In my experience planning for Jaipur, a 500-person wedding here can be beautifully done for 40-50 lakhs, while Delhi or Mumbai would start at nearly double that for a similar feel. My old college friend in Delhi just shared her daughter's budget, and the hall rental alone gave me a shock! So I'd have to disagree that a tier-2 city is automatically the cheaper choice nowadays—the 'heritage premium' in Jaipur is very real. We are reusing my own wedding's jewellery for my daughter, a quiet heirloom from my mother-in-law, because the current prices for even simple gold work in Johari Bazaar could fund a small house back in our village.
