It is a very strict, formal procedure. The chaperone arrives unannounced, presents the notification, and directly escorts the athlete for sample collection under observation. The A and B samples are sealed in tamper-proof containers with codes, not names.
But from my porch, I see the reality is different for my son, a college runner. Once, an official came for testing and first asked for 'chai-paani' money. When my son refused, the man left without even taking the sample. So the rulebook is one thing, but the ground is another, yaar.
