The Partnership Act says we must share profits and losses equally, beta. But in my life, when the photocopy machine broke and sales fell, my partner and I did not share the loss equally—he had put in more capital, so he bore the heavier share. Sometimes the deed is silent, but the heart is not. We adjusted our shares by our own silent understanding, just as we adjust the fan speed in this heat.
