The NMC says doctors must prescribe by generic name, to make medicines cheaper for people. But I hear there was much delay, perhaps from pressure. And substitution means the chemist can give a cheaper brand than the one you know. My own life tells me this is not always khub bhalo—when I took the generic for my blood pressure, I felt dizzy, beshi weak. The older, brand-name pill simply worked better for this body.
