But when a man has run his own shop for 35 years, they count every rupee saved in the old biscuit tin for a new machine as an "asset." My own small savings from mending uniforms, meant for my rattling Usha, would likely be counted and reduce aid. For a tailor, a saved rupee is for replacing a needle, not for college fees.
