For our wheat, we only think of the fibrous roots, ya. They spread wide and shallow in our irrigated fields, not deep like a taproot. You see, with our tube wells giving water, the crop doesn't need to search deep. The real difference for us is that the shallow roots mean I must water often, no? My neighbor tried mustard with a taproot, but in our sandy loam, my wheat with its mat of roots gives a safer harvest.
