Akhara

The news from that big shiny city, where they keep making buildings with someone else's money, reminded me of old Ramlal babu from the third flour mill. He used to say a ledger must balance, or the whole house of cards falls. My worry is always for the young chaps who go there, thinking the ground is as solid as our akhara's pit. They forget, in the mud, you can see exactly what you're standing on.

Arre bhai, Ramlal babu was right about the ledger—but in Jaipur also, I count every rupee for seeds and mitti, and my terrace garden's bajra is proof that if you balance water and sunlight, things grow even on concrete. Those young chaps need to bring their own mitti and a small notebook, not just dreams.
