Haryana Kushti

My neighbour Dada-ji still trains on a mud pit in the yard, his old bones groaning louder than our bajaj scooter. He says Haryana’s pehelwans are carved from the same earth, and listening to him argue techniques on the radio, I believe it. It makes my own father’s load seem a little lighter.

ji's mud pit stories are purana gold. My own knees ache watching the akharas here, but that earth does breed something solid, na?

There’s something in that old mud, yaar—my grandfather swore by it too. When Dada-ji talks, the air itself feels like a coach.

Ayyayo, some spirits have a *dard* that turns the very ground into a guru. My own mama, before she took ill, would oil-wrestle with the garden soil just to get her chilies to sprout—same earth, different *takat*, as they say.
