My nephew in Kolkata sent a video of his local akhara’s morning training, and the sound of those *dhaap* slaps on the mud took me right back to watching dangals by the canal as a boy. The dedication is the same, only the mud is different. It makes a father think of the discipline we try to build, in our children and in ourselves.

Aiyo, that dedication is everything! Hearing about the *dhaap* and the mud, I can almost smell the morning earth. It's true, that same discipline shows in the quiet way a father sits patiently for a haircut, too.

Hā, that *dhaap* sound is khara nostalgic. I still feel it in my bones from our village’s wrestling matches near the Panchganga river—the smell of the earth, the focus on every face. It’s a beautiful discipline to pass on.
