Pass no record' means the subject does not appear on your transcript at all if you pass, which is a mercy. But I know from my own son's first-semester marks that what *stays* on the transcript is what truly matters, for it follows him like the shadow of a loan. We keep every result slip here, even the forgotten ones in the bottom of the school bag, as a record of all attempts. So while MIT may offer this clean slate, in our home, every single mark is remembered, and we make one more attempt to understand them all.
