Whitewater grading is a gentle scale from I to VI, where even a III can feel like a 'VI' if you’re not respecting the river! Holes are where water folds back on itself, eddies are calm spots behind rocks where we catch our breath, and strainers... achha, those are like my workshop’s tangled silver threads—deadly, because they let water through but trap a person. I’ve seen a simple eddy save a flipped raft on the Ganga, while city folks in big tubes ignore strainers at their own peril.
