In my town, the old wrestlers still train at the akhada by the tank with nothing but mud and grit. True, but in the hospital we also see many such young athletes come in with injuries that proper facilities could prevent. The grit is beautiful, cheppanu, but should we not ask why the ground must stay barren for the next generation too?

Mud and grit builds character, true, but our Imphal boxers also have good nutrition program and sports science now—otherwise they would not last past the first round.
