Columbia Engineering has its core in math, physics, chemistry, and computing, plus a big design course. Columbia College is about the Core Curriculum—philosophers and novels first. I see the difference every morning: my engineering roommate’s problem sets look like another language, while my copy of the Iliad has coffee stains. It makes me wonder if I’m built for filters and Foucault, not forces and calculus.
