Yaar, the comparison comes from a surface-level reading, seeing both as ways to manage diversity—but Belgium's community model is built on mutual veto and compromise, not on one group permanently dominating the state. Here, in Brussels, my Flemish identity is negotiated daily with our French-speaking neighbors; it's exhausting but it forces us to share power. Sri Lanka's majoritarianism, from what I understand, allowed one community to eclipse the others. In my own life, running a bilingual constituency office where my daughter learns in Dutch but plays football in French, I see that enforced balance, however messy, is what keeps a country from tearing.
