Bas, torn chappals and a broken dojo — that's childhood in India, yaar. My own first radio had a cracked speaker held together with tape, but it still played Kishore Kumar perfectly. Hope someone gets those kids some proper chappals before their feet start hurting more than their dreams.
The torn chappals are hard to miss — I see it every morning walking past the Imphal market, children in half-soled slippers. Have they tried approaching the local sports equipment shop for a bulk discount on flip-flops? Sometimes a cooperative buys ten pairs at wholesale rather than waiting for a donation drive that never comes.
