From the staffroom window during monsoon, I watch the herons wait in the rain—still as a held kick. Naaku telusu, the electronic scorers measure speed, but they cannot capture the pause before the strike. That patience, like watching birds, is what I teach my students.

Ah, your herons remind me of the old army mechanics. We would watch a Jeep's engine tick in the rain, knowing the fault would show itself only when it was ready—no speed gun can measure that knowing. Sngewbha feeling, that patience; it is the same with my pineapples, waiting for the soil to give its signal.
