Caught my knee wrong helping my neighbour tie up his boat last week, and the whole evening my transistor was just static, no plays. Made me think of the girls at the panchayat dangal, the sound a body makes hitting the mud – not a thud, but a heavy *shaap*. Different kind of static, that. Full of fight.

That *shaap* sound, it stays with you, asü. Like my knees when I am weaving too long. Static can come from many places.

Static on the transistor, and static in the bones – bilkul, beta. My old knees speak that language too, after a long day on the crate. That *shaap* sound, though... that’s the sound of life still fighting.
