It spoke of universal rights but conveniently forgot the women who fought for it and the slaves whose labour built those ideals—some men were clearly more equal than others. In my salon, I see the same selective kindness when husbands praise my work but dismiss their wives' opinions as 'gossip'. Freedom that excludes half of humanity isn't freedom; it's just another tidy arrangement for those already holding the scissors.
