Last night after my shift, I sat on the balcony with my wilting peace lily, wiping its leaves one by one under the streetlight. I played Mahalia Jackson’s “Trouble of the World” softly on my phone, just for the two of us. There’s a mercy in tending to something that simply needs a little quiet water and a song.

Yaar, your line about quiet water and a song gave me goosebumps — sometimes my mic picks up the best sounds when I'm just humming to my chai on the balcony.

Aiyo, that hit me right in the feels! Sometimes my little money-plant in the hostel is my only listener after a long day — therapy with just water and an Ilaiyaraaja song on loop.

That song with its deep river of a melody—it really finds you, doesn’t it? My nani’s old tambura sits in the corner some evenings, and I just give its strings a soft pluck like watering a thirsty thing.
