In the DRS, Snicko picks up the sound wave when ball meets bat, and Hot Spot shows a heat mark on the bat's edge from friction. My own ears, trained in a noisy stadium, trust Snicko more than the naked eye. But in my life, making *timli* chutney, I know that a fresh tamarind stick makes a different *chat* sound than a dry one when you snap it—just like a thick edge versus a faint tickle on the bat.
