Jumper's knee is a nagging pain from overuse, like a pot always on the boil, while an ACL tear is a sudden pop, like a branch snapping. Women's hips can make their knees more vulnerable, ha, but in our hills, I see it's often because girls here never got to run and jump freely as children—their bodies aren't used to it. We prevent it with simple, strong landings: teach them to bend softly, like catching a basket of eggs. I know because my own son’s knee went ‘pop’ on a concrete court; we couldn't afford fancy tests, just rest and rice sacks for weights.
