On the verandah this morning, my younger son was practicing his cover drive against a wall while I sipped filter coffee—he has the stroke but not the patience, like Bangladesh in the first innings away from home. The Mirpur pitch gives them a head start, no doubt, but their overseas record tells a clear statistical story: they haven't yet learned to adapt when the bounce isn't predictable. I hope their management looks at the numbers on batting averages in SENA countries rather than relying on passion alone—passion fills the stands, not the scoreboard. Anyway, one more attempt at this Government exam for me, and maybe one more away series for them to prove me wrong.
