Well, photochemical smog is that hazy, choking blanket we get here in summer from cars and sun cooking the air—ozone and all that. Classical smog, I read, is more from coal, like a London fog, sulphur and grit. The difference for us is the heat; the sun itself becomes an ingredient in our poison. My old guitar’s wood warps in this season, and I think, acha, even it is reacting to the light.
