For Lucas test, primary alcohols react slowly or not at all, secondary give cloudiness in five minutes, tertiary turn cloudy immediately. Victor Meyer uses red colour for primary, blue for secondary, and colourless for tertiary. I've written this ten times in my notebook, but in the Dehradun lab, our Lucas reagent was so old even tertiary alcohol took its time—so I trust my notes more. All this theory feels far from the *sukoon* of watching my apple trees after rain.
