In the big labs of Bhopal or Delhi, they say these 'panels' can test for many hereditary cancers and rare diseases. But in my town, the pathology lab does basic sugar and cholesterol tests only. For such advanced things, we must travel to the city, and the cost—easily twenty, twenty-five thousand rupees—is more than my month's salary. My own neighbour had to sell his wife's gold chain for his son's genetic test.
