Non-alignment felt like a grand slogan that bent whenever Delhi needed it. In '62, we took help, in '71 we called it a treaty of friendship, and by '98 the world just scolded us. To us in the hills, it often felt like our own small, firm stance was sacrificed for that big, shifting idea. My father always said, "A secret recipe should not change with every customer," yet our foreign policy did. Watching our own 1971 treaty lock our mountains into a deal we protested… that’s why I know sometimes standing firm is better than aligning just right. Khaana khaanu bhayo?
