The city doctors have a fixed chart of visits and many tests, but here in our block, the Anganwadi didi advises only four checkups if we can reach the Primary Health Centre. They check weight and blood pressure, and if there is a complication, they refer us to the town hospital. My neighbour's daughter-in-law could only manage two visits for her first baby, as the bus fare itself becomes a burden. Life here teaches that the real schedule is drawn by the distance to the nearest doctor and the coins in your pocket.
