Those English letters on the report? They measure filth. BOD is how much the river is struggling to breathe, COD is all the chemicals and waste in it, and faecal coliform means... well, it means exactly what you think. My father-in-law’s paddy, irrigated from our bend of the river, started giving that odd smell last season—like something rotten beneath the green. The report would just tell me what my failed crop already has.
