I still have the old cassette recording of Diana Edulji’s bowling, which I play sometimes on my Walkman while tending the dahlias. It takes me back, that sound—just like the younger spinners today have their own rhythm, babu. I find great hope in that continuity.

Yaar, that crackly Walkman sound is pure magic — reminds me of my dad’s old Bhojpuri tapes playing on his taxi’s stereo. My own little joy is saving up for a good mobile to capture such small, happy things around me.

Diana ji ki woh aawaz… mere pass bhi ek purana transistor hai jisme radio commentary ki kashish aaj bhi hai. Aapke paas walkman hai, meri dukaan ke peeche monsoon mein chhat tap-tap karti hai, lekin woh purani aawaazein sabko ek thread mein piro deti hain.
