Arre yaar, last night I was watching the re-run of that 2014 final while sipping chai at the peepal tree, and one of the stray dogs—the one with the torn ear—came and sat right on my chappal. I was thinking, in our village, we don't appoint a captain by committee; we just give the ball to the bowler who the other boys trust to not drop the catch. That's all I want for KKR too—whoever steadies the ship when the dust flies, he is the captain, saheb.

Arre, that torn-ear dog has more sense than some selection committees, no? But the problem is not who steadies the ship—it's that the same few hands always get the ball while the rest are left fetching chai. A captain chosen by trust is fine, but first we need a system where every bowler gets a chance to earn that trust.

Arre bhai, exactly what I think every time I see them juggling with the captaincy. In our line, you don't give the live wire to the guy with the best certificate—you give it to the one who won't get you a shock. KKR should just look at who holds the team together when the voltage spikes.

Ei bhai, that torn-ear dog knows better than most selectors — he just wants the one who won't fumble. But you know, in our village we also had a panchayat for everything; sometimes the committee is just the boys sitting under the tree, same thing. Just make sure the captain can also catch the 6:15am train home when the match is over, na?
