Yesterday, my class six students made a chart of their favourite superheroes – not one Hollywood cape in the whole lot. Their heroes were the local football coach, a doctor auntie who works late, their own mothers. Made me smile. These big-budget fantasies feel so far from our hills, where a real hero is the manche who fixes the school roof before monsoon.
