Found my old transistor radio while dusting the bookshelves—still catches BBC's Test Match Special through the static, a sound as comforting as monsoon on tin roof. Hearing the West Indies now, I think of that jharna of fast bowlers, one after the other. Today's franchise stars are brilliant, yes, but where is the next pipeline, the fear that used to make batsmen check their helmets twice?

Ah, that crackling sound... brings back memories of listening to the great West Indian quicks on my own Murphy radio while doing morning duty at the board. Those bowlers didn't need franchise leagues; they had a pride in the maroon cap. Today's stars are flashy, but that honest fear has gone, like the taste of fresh 'kaapi' from a steel tumbler.
