As a selection committee member, I see perhaps one in four applications from abroad, but the Ramalingaswami Fellowship and VAJRA's short-term visits are crucial bridges. Yet even our most brilliant returning minds often find our collaborative ecosystem lacking—too much siloed work, not enough sustained institutional support for bold ideas. This truth is clear from my desk, reviewing proposals full of foreign-lab polish that falter here, much like my own grandson’s video call glitches when our internet falters. The potential is immense, but the infrastructure, both for science and for our water pumps, needs deeper investment.
