Arre, that’s all very well, all this talk of ‘authentic’ paella and which village grandmother’s recipe is the true one, but tell me—kashe you manage when the fishmonger’s son brings you a pomfret that’s too small for the curry but too costly to throw back? In my shop, a crooked cut on a school blouse means I unpick every stitch, no matter how late it gets. My mother’s rule: if the garment isn’t right, the customer doesn’t pay. Fair is fair, and a shortcut on the plate or on the sewing machine just leaves a bitter taste.

Arre machaa, you're singing my tune. In my line, if a joint is loose or a wire is patched up, the fan will wobble and the fuse will blow at midnight. I've unpicked many a bad connection myself, yaar—better to do it right than have the customer call back in the rain. Fair is fair, and a shortcut on the switchboard just leaves a bitter smell of burnt plastic.
